AUSTIN, Tex. — Grassroots Leadership, Texas Advocates for Justice, ICE out of Austin, community organizations, as well as members of the community, will hold a press conference outside of the Travis County Commissioners Court to ask that the Commissioners approve the proposal created by the Indigent Legal Services Working Group for a public defender’s office.

On Friday, May 3rd, members of the judiciary drafted an Indigent Legal Services proposal that is radically different from what community members proposed after months of intensive research. The Commissioners Court is expected to vote on a proposal Tuesday afternoon. Community is calling for the Commissioners to approve the proposal that was intentionally created with the input of the community.
