Please join us for a Hutto Visitation Program Orientation on Saturday, June 23rd from 1pm to 3pm. Our program pairs community members with asylum-seeking women who are locked up in Hutto Detention Center in Taylor, TX. Members advocate to challenge the detention system, monitor human rights in the facility, and extend support in a very challenging time in someone’s life. The vast majority of the women in Hutto have fled from Central America, so our primary need is for Spanish-speaking volunteers, though other languages like Arabic, French, Portugese, and Mandarin are also needed. Members must be conversationally proficient in a language other than English.

You will be visiting the detention center at least once a month, and more frequently, at times, if a higher level of advocacy is needed for her case. It is open 8am until 8pm, seven days a week. You will also commit to participating in rallying, awareness raising, and other campaign activities.

The training will be bilingual English/Spanish, with interpretation provided. Please pass along the date to anyone who may be interested in advocating for the rights of women in this abusive detention system. Let us know you're coming, there are space limitations. You must RSVP via the link, not on Facebook. RSVP here. If it is full, be on the lookout for our next month's training. Looking forward to seeing you there!
