Grassroots Leadership is pleased to welcome Jason Phillips to our team! Jason will be working with our criminal justice program as he completes his final field practicum toward a master of social work degree from Texas State University.
Jason has worked directly with individuals experiencing homelessness, individuals on supervision and re-entering the community, and people with substance abuse and mental health concerns. He enjoys research, program development, strategic planning, and advocating for human rights and social justice. Jason believes that people need relationships and community to be able to heal, not institutions of confinement and control.
Some of the organizations in Austin that Jason has worked with include: Keep Austin Housed AmeriCorps Program, Front Steps - Austin Resource Center for the Homeless, Redemptive Work, and the Texas Civil Rights Project. He has also been involved with the Prison Justice League, and currently serves on the board of directors.
