One month campaign update for Alirio Gámez in Sanctuary in Austin

"Me siento muy contento y agradecido por toda la gente que me está apoyando mucho. Sinceramente les digo que no puedo regresar a mi país, porque el momento que regreso, estoy en riesgo de perder mi vida. Esta petición de nuestra campaña es importante para parar mi deportación." - Alirio Gámez, Oct. 3, 2017

"I feel very glad and thankful for everyone who is giving me so much support. I can honestly tell you that I can't return to my country, because the moment I return, I'm at risk of losing my life. This petition for our campaign is vital to stop my deportation." - Alirio Gámez, Oct. 3, 2017

In the midst of a national firestorm of attacks on immigrants and sanctuary cities, Alirio Gámez took the prophetic and courageous step of entering into Sanctuary at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Austin. Tuesday September 5, the same day the Trump administration announced the termination of DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), Alirio made a public statement for the dignity and rights of immigrants.

Sign the petition to close Alirio’s deportation case!

Alirio fled El Salvador due to the increasing violence targeting him and his family. He went through the legal system to apply for asylum, but it failed him. Now he faces immediate deportation. We stand in solidarity with Alirio and our immigrant neighbors who face the fatal consequences of deportation.

Our petition calls for Alirio to be granted prosecutorial discretion by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to stop his deportation to El Salvador. Signing the petition automatically sends an email to ICE officials, punctuating their day with the reminder that Alirio has the community’s support. These petitions are vital to bring attention to Alirio’s story, as we have seen proven to be successful in previous sanctuary campaigns.

CALL TO ACTION: Tell ICE officials Norma Lacy and Daniel Bible to close the deportation case of Alirio Gámez and grant prosecutorial discretion. Sign our petition today, and share it with friends and family on Facebook and Twitter.
