Three years ago, Grassroots Leadership and Texans United for Families (TUFF) started the Hutto Visitation Program (HVP), which has matched hundreds of community volunteers with immigrant women detained at the T. Don Hutto Detention Center in nearby Taylor, Texas. The goals of the program are to provide friendship to women detained, serve as human rights monitors in the facility and build a base of advocates for detention reform. CIVIC is a national network of visitation programs that aims to end the isolation of men and women in U.S. civil immigration detention through structured and engaged visitation combined with nationwide detention monitoring and advocacy.

Please join us for a conversation on detention visitation with CIVIC’s Christina Mansfield and Grassroots Leadership’s Bob Libal as we discuss building visitation programs in detention centers.

We would like to encourage you to reach out to friends in other parts of the state and share this information with them. Please RSVP to Lauren Voyles at

We look forward to seeing you at one of these events.

Lauren - I RSVP for the Saturday training in San Antonio along with Rev. Lydia Hernandez. We will not be able to attend. Do you have other trainings later on this month or in November? We both reside in Austin. Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the Friday training because of my work schedule.

Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you.
